Lola cover by The Raincoats

I am fully aware that there is an original by The Kinks. This was just the first version I listened to. There’s nothing wrong with the Kink’s version at all, and I listen to it almost just as much, but I think this was just as well done. Maybe even better. Also, I respect that The Raincoats added a deeper political meaning to the song.

Originally, this was just about a bar incident. The band manager, Robert Wace, was just really drunk and getting it on with a tranny (wikipedia) There may be some intentional deeper meaning they were trying to convey, but in essence, it really was just that.
This is totally unfair, I know, but The Raincoats are renowned for singing about gender equality, so they convey their message better (whatever that may be).
I also just really love their style.

Both versions are great, so it really depends on your taste in music.

Capitalism Stole My Virginity by The International Noise Conspiracy

Okay this is getting a little ridiculous.

Why is it that everything I’ve been listening to in the past year has been swedish.

From Wikipedia:

“The band’s first tour outside Sweden, their homeland, went to China. They played their songs in illegal and hidden rock clubs while the Chinese police waited outside with guns and nightsticks. They also toured with My Chemical Romance in the United States. The band’s lead singer describes their music as like The Hives with added politics, as The (International) Noise Conspiracy have a strong Situationist agenda in some of their work, such as ‘Capitalism Stole My Virginity’.”

How badass can you possibly get?
On another note, you have no idea how many creepy conspiracy websites I’ve filtered through while googling this band.

So my friend told me to check this band out and I don’t even know what… I have to admit, not my style, but not bad at all. The lyrics, instrumentals and vibes are just average, but the lead vocalist has a really nice voice quality. And I love love love the music video even though it kind of freaks me out.

*edit: “It’s entertaining. Also, you would get a lot more of the things in this if you knew the band better. Like, pomegranates is a joke the band members have with each other, and the lead singer has really bad insomnia so this video is about him trying to find something to do late at night.”-My friend providing some apparently really important context.
