HEY. LISTEN.
Dancing shoelaces steal the show in Chris Cunningham’s music video for the song “Only You” by Portishead. The film showed gravity defying ethereal movements. Beth Gibbons and a young boy were shot in underwater tanks and then digitally reinserted into a street scene. The lack of any bubbles and distinct sharpness of the light, make it almost impossible to make sense of visually.

So Neon Indian is one of my favorite artists. Alan Palomo [vocalist/everything else really] is a genius and I love him, but he isn’t for everyone, especially if you hate synth.
It’s a little too easy to mistake NI’s songs for something that would play in those brand name stores with too much cologne and music blasted all the way up, which is a shame because I promise you that they are so much more.
The lyrics (in my opinion) are brilliantly witty. They tend to lean more on the repetitive/pop style, which isn’t usually what I enjoy, but Palomo pulls them off with a certain grace.
Unfortunately, I’m not nearly well acquainted enough with synth music to judge his skill, but I’m sure he’s fairly proficient. There’s also a really great video on the internet of his dad playing guitar. I’ll probably post it later. I guess talent runs in the blood?
I’m not quite sure why I posted this song in particular… Maybe because I’ve had a ridiculous amount of sleep paralysis attacks in the past few months? But I really like Polish Girl, Halogen (I Could Be A Shadow) and Hex Girlfriend.
